About the Event
National Numeracy are working in partnership with Education Scotland and the Young STEM Leader Programme to celebrate the 5th year anniversary of National Numeracy Day on 18th May. This is the UK’s only annual day dedicated to everyday maths. It is a celebration of numbers in everyday life and will be hosted online with celebrities including Rachel Riley, Martin Lewis and Bobby Seagull among others. The action packed day will provide a host of activities for centres to get involved with from Baking with Peter Sawkins,(Great British bake off 2020) to dancing with Katya Jones (Strictly Come Dancing) and rapping with Harry Baker (rapper, poet and mathematician).
Centres signing up as a National Numeracy Day Champion will receive free, fun materials and numeracy resources for them to use and share, including the Number Heroes Competition. With 5 categories ranging from pre-school to S2 and open to community groups there are prizes to be had worth over £1000 for each of the wining centres as well as the winning entries.
This year, with your help, we are calling on Young STEM Leaders to get involved and support the day, helping Champion Centres to take part in the competition. To find out more about the day and how you can get involved join our 45 min presentation online on Thursday 31st March at 4pm.
