About the Event
The SCQF Level 7 Award in STEM Leadership is an award that enables candidates (STEM Leaders) to improve their leadership skills and qualities, undertake an independent research project and present, share and report on the results of the project.
The course has particular focus on Learning for Sustainability (LfS) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is a crucially important topic for today's learners. STEM Leaders will select particular SDGs and/or LfS themes to act as a starting point for their research project. The award also enables STEM Leaders to engage with a coach/mentor, either an individual or an organisation, who - alongside a member of staff in their centre (The Tutor Assessor) - will support them to undertake the research project.
As part of the award, and the main assessment tool, the STEM Leader will produce a piece of work that outlines the aims, methods, results and conclusions of the research project, for example a report, a presentation or a video.
This qualification provides a useful bridge between the activities undertaken in formal Young STEM Leader awards (at SCQF Levels 4, 5 and 6) and the other STEM qualifications with study in further education, higher education, apprenticeships or employment.
There is no pre-requisites to accessing the qualification, but STEM Leaders should be identified as individuals with an interest in STEM and developing their leadership, research and communication skills.
The approximate completion time for the award is 60 hours. On completion the STEM Leader will gain 6 SCQF Credit points*. *Following successful credit rating.
