STEM in Scotland
STEM in Scotland
On a map of Scotland, ask Young STEM Leaders (YSLs) to label centres of STEM industry or activity e.g. gaming, space, forestry, energy or biotechnology...
Why might industries, opportunities or careers be different indifferent parts of the country?
Once they have populated the map, YSLs could focus on one STEM development and consider its positive impact for Scotland.
Interview a Leidos STEM Specialist!
Leidos is a global technology, science and engineering company on a mission to make the world safer, healthier and more efficient. Leidos has more than 44,000 people working across all 7 continents and in space!
STEM Specialists from Leidos are supporting #YoungSTEMLeaderWeek through a live Q&A panel for YSLs. YSLs can ask questions to a panel of ambassadors and find out what opportunities exist in Leidos and beyond.
Mohammed and Ali Osman, Technical/Team Leads
Mohammed and Ali have lead roles in software development, currently focussed on the ‘Accountant in Bankruptcy’ programme. In their own time, they are also running British Sign Language (BSL) training sessions and support for Leidos employees UK-wide.
Peter Smith, 2021 Census Delivery Director
Before joining Leidos, Peter gained a PhD and was a lecturer in statistics. He also did some interesting work in automation for the Post Office! For the last few years, he has led the 2021 Census work within Leidos.
Kat McRae, Head of Emerging Capabilities
Kat is a senior IT leader with over 20 years’ experience in IT operations. Her current role in Emerging Capabilities is an exciting one, as Emerging Capabilities branches into data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Lauren Lawson, Technical Graduate Apprentice
Lauren did a summer internship with Leidos followed by a Foundation Apprenticeship before joining us permanently as a Technical Graduate Apprentice. She loves sharing her learning with young people as a keen STEM Ambassador.
Please note all workshops should be booked by Tutor Assessors. Tutor Assessors can use a projector/smartboard to stream the event to the group of YSLs. Questions can be submitted via the chat function or using Mentimeter if YSLs have access to digital devices.
